DIRECTOR'S NOTE

One of the first musicals that I can remember enjoying was Guys & Dolls! My mother took us to a production at the Goodspeed Theatre in Connecticut. The catchy tunes, great dancing, and jokes galore. When I was in college my first summer there, I was selected to be a part of a group that did an evening of Frank Loeser music and one of the songs that I got to perform was Sue Me. I played Nathan Detroit and had an absolute blast. The person playing opposite me got to beat me up during the song and I thought it was the coolest thing ever!

Fast forward to May of 2023. The Saxon Stage students and I took our annual NYC Broadway theatre trip. I was brainstorming shows for the next theatre season of Saxon Stage. The last show that we saw on Broadway was Some Like It Hot! This show fits in the same era as Guys and Dolls! It was so funny, and the students had a blast watching. In fact, after the show, most of them said it was one of their top choices from the group of shows we watched that weekend. That was when I knew it was time to direct a production of Guys and Dolls!

These students have worked so hard. We had a lot of fun creating this piece from the set design, costumes, lighting, to the dancing, singing, and acting. Get ready to laugh, cry, sing, and dance your way out of this theatre this evening as Saxon Stage gives you three hours of packed joy! Thank you for your support and we hope you enjoy the show!
